Welbourne Children’s Centre

Welbourne Children’s Centre is set in the grounds of Welbourne Primary School on Stainby Road. We are a community based hub where families with children from 0 to 5 years have access to a range of free services (see timetable).

The Children’s Centre is on Stainby Road, a little further up from the Primary School entrance. We are open all year round, not just during term time. We are here for local families with young children, providing activities, information, advice and other services. Our most up-to-date timetable is here.

Welbourne is a welcoming community resource – children and families are at the heart of our work.  Please call us on 020 8493 1197 or pop in for more details on our support services.

Stay & Play

Children learn through play. At our twice-weekly Stay & Play drop-ins, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, there is a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. These include: paint, collage, books, singing, messy play, construction, sand, water, small world, imaginative play, bikes and other outdoor toys.

There is no need to book to attend a session, although we recommend families come early as we can get VERY busy.

Babbling Babies

Babbling Babies is our group for non-walkers. Led by our EIOP Shirlana, parents and babies can enjoy sensory play which helps to further their development. Parents to meet other parents and carers of under-1s and create a supportive network. We also provide outreach support to families who might need some help and advice. We work in close partnership with the Health Visiting team and Public Health, who occasionally attend sessions to support families and answer any questions they may have.

Baby Massage

Studies have shown that routine touch can help a baby’s cognitive and emotional development, can support bonding between parent and child, and can address common infant health issues such as colic, wind and constipation. Our baby massage course can give parents the tools to learn how to massage their babies, in a relaxed and supportive environment. It is a five-week course, and parents can sign up in the Children’s Centre.

English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL)

We have ESOL classes in the Children’s Centre on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, led by our tutor Rostam. The courses are open to all Haringey residents, although participants will need to do an assessment to establish their level. If they are a different level to the class in Welbourne, we can find them a suitable course in another setting. For more information come into the centre, or call our Learning & Volunteer Co-ordinator, Gulden, on 07974 999 469.
